Maribeth loves Lester, but her divorced sister Lily says he’ll never make anything of himself. Maribeth agrees to marry her boss Bert if Lily can prove Lester is “shallow and worthless.” Lily flirts with Lester and he responds, so Maribeth breaks up with him. She decides to marry Bert, even though she doesn’t love him. Lily says if Maribeth rejects Bert, then she’ll marry him, but only for his money. Maribeth decides she does love Bert and they will wed. Lily and her ex-husband reconcile.
