Pete dumps Jenny because she’s a “drip!” He doesn’t know that Jenny was diagnosed at age 11 with a serious heart condition that precludes any excitement or exertion. As a teen she collapsed while dancing and in college loses boyfriends because she can’t dance or bowl, etc. Jenny dates Stan and they fall in love, but he has to drop out of school to support his widowed mother. Jenny also drops out, and after 3 years Stan returns, says he already knows about her heart condition, and doesn’t care: they will get married.
