John Lewis takes a leading role for voting rights drives in Mississippi and Alabama. Numerous participants and random victims are murdered. Lewis is one of thousands who are repeatedly attacked, injured, and jailed. While the white-power state governments still resist, the federal government passes the Civil Rights Act and the Voting Rights Act. Decades later Lewis is a U. S. Representative from Georgia, participating in the inauguration of Barack Obama as President of the United States.
