The Red Skull has control of S.A.M., the robot invented by Dr. Smythe, and directs it against Cap and Bucky. Before the Skull is defeated, he shoots Betsy Ross, who nearly dies until she receives a transfusion from Miss Vinegar, who sacrifices herself to save Betsy.
