Betty leaves her small town and moves in with her friend Nancy in the big city. Nancy gets Betty a job at the Temple Company, run by her fiance Tom. Betty flirts with Tom and tries to break up his romance with Nancy to further her own career. Tom tells Betty \"you're cruel and mean and use your friends for stepping stones.\" Betty vows to change her life from now on.
