Bess and her family live in the slums. She attracts the attention of big shot Tony, to the consternation of local cop Joe, who has a crush on Bess himself. Tony uses Bess’s little brother Sammy as a lookout for a robbery, and Sammy is shot. Tony refuses to let him be taken to a hospital. Bess goes to Joe for help and Tony is arrested. Bess realizes Joe is “twice the man” that Tony is.
