Failsafe #1

Captain Penny Laertes aims to be the first person to pass through the home of the Nebula Sirens and survive. She installs multiple failsafes in Calypso, the ship's computer, to prevent being stranded in the nebula. After the failsafes are engaged, a reactor failure makes the ship temporarily uninhabitable, so she has to take a spacewalk until the radiation dissipates. She cavorts with the Sirens until a radiation pulse drives them away knocks her out. After she wakes up and the Sirens return, and as her air supply runs out, she returns to her ship and leaves the nebula behind her.
