How the set heat score works

Chase card strength35%
What the five most valuable cards are worth together. Big chase cards drive pack and box demand.
Pack value15%
Estimated value of the cards in an average pack against what a pack costs.
Fan-favourite Pokemon15%
How much of the top-card value sits on Pokemon collectors always chase: Charizard, Pikachu, Umbreon, Mew and friends.
Out-of-print clock15%
Months since release. Most sets stop printing at 12 to 18 months, which is when sealed supply starts to shrink.
Special set10%
Special and holiday sets come in boxed products only, so there is less of them.
Single big chase5%
One card carrying the set: a single headline chase keeps people opening packs.
Nostalgia or anniversary5%
Anniversary and nostalgia sets that pull in returning collectors.

Pack value is an estimate: average pull rates by rarity, which vary by set, multiplied by the average market price of the cards in each rarity, against a typical $4.49 booster pack ($5.99 per pack for special sets, which come in boxed products). Reverse holos and energy cards are left out.
