Comic series heating up

Spot the next big series while the first printing still sits near cover price. We score every series launched in the last twelve months on the signals that moved past hits early: sell-outs and reprints, publisher investment, the creative team's record and new lines. Every score comes with its reasons, the cheapest way in and the issues to target.

458 series scored today. The top 25 are ranked below.

How the heat score works

Eight signals, each scored from 0 to 1 and weighted into a score out of 100. We checked the model against past hits using only what was known at the time: four weeks after launch, Absolute Batman, Transformers and Battle Beast all ranked in the top 2% of new series, and every one of the hits we tested sat in the top 3% by week eight.

Reprint speed35%
How fast #1 to #3 went back to print, how many times, and how recently. Publishers only reprint when shops sell out, so this is the strongest demand signal there is.
1st print value vs cover15%
What the first printing of #1 sells for against its cover price.
Publisher investment15%
Variant covers on #1 and rare ratio variants on the early issues, measured against the publisher's own norm. Publishers back the books they expect to sell.
Creator track record10%
How the writer's and artist's previous launches did: how many went back to print, and how far.
New line or shared universe10%
Whether the series opens or joins a new line or shared universe, and how its siblings are selling.
Story keys5%
First appearances and key issues in the opening run.
Collector interest5%
Collectors following the series or adding it to their collection in the last 60 days.
Upcoming catalysts5%
Catalysts on upcoming issues, such as first appearances and media news.
