Laura is an outcast because the townspeople believe she was responsible for breaking up her sister's relationship with Peter and her subsequent disappearance. But a stranger tells her how he met Denise on the night she left. She had intentionally left without telling anyone so the gossip's could have a real ball. He then shows her a clipping from an American magazine that reveals that Denise had married a multi-millionaire three years earlier.
