Bert has gotten so wrapped up in space travel that it has ruined Lena's romance with him. A friend of Lena's, who works in the rocket establishment at Harton, cures Bert of his desire for space travel by placing him in the Whirlwind, a device whose little cabins go round and round at high speed... just like a space flight.
