Nicola receives news that her sister's husband has died and immediately books passage to the West Indies to see her sister at Silver Bay. But when she arrives, she learns that her sister has also died in an accident. According to the will, Nicola will inherit the estate, but Peters is to be the overseer until Nicola marries or until she comes of age. Peters would inherit the estate if anything happened to Nicola and several people suggest that Peters had something to do with the deaths of her sister and her husband.
