Michael Turner's Fathom: Cannon Hawke #1

Akiko arrives at Cannon's hotel suite to find that he has been battling the spirit of Taras that plagues his soul and he has wrecked his room. Once Cannon comes to his senses, the two fly off to Japan to confront Barnic about his recent dealings with Maylander. Barnic sends his men after Cannon and they steal the grey matter liquid that he has been carrying in a vial around his neck. As Cannon blacks out, Taras takes over his body and brutally kills Barnic's men.
