Jessica refuses to marry Stan because she believes she’ll have a singing career like her late, great father, although she has “none of [her] father’s great talent.” When Stan suggests she change her last name to see if she can get bookings, Jessica learns that she can't get any bookings and agrees to wed Stan. But when she accepts an offer for a concert tour Stan breaks up with her. The tour ends and Jessica learns she was only hired to exploit her father’s fame. She winds up as a singing waitress until Stan returns and says he still loves her.
