Jane and Larry are in love, but she doesn’t feel he’s ambitious enough. She marries politician Paul instead. Paul eventually becomes governor, but their marriage is loveless. Jane visits a carnival, alone, and sees Larry with his wife and two children. He’s content with his life, while for Jane it’s “too late for everything but tears!”
