Convention exclusive Funko Pops are among the most sought-after figures in the hobby. Produced in limited quantities and available only at specific events or through short-window online releases, they command significant premiums on the secondary market. Here is what to know before chasing them.

What Makes Convention Exclusives Different

Standard retail Pops are produced in large quantities and restocked regularly. Convention exclusives are produced in limited runs - typically 500 to 5,000 pieces - and once they sell out, they are gone. SDCC (San Diego Comic-Con), NYCC (New York Comic Con), Funko HQ exclusives, and D23 (Disney fan convention) exclusives all fall into this category.

The scarcity is genuine, not manufactured. If you miss the convention window, you are buying from the secondary market at a premium.

SDCC Exclusives: The Holy Grail

San Diego Comic-Con is the most prestigious convention in the space. SDCC Funko exclusives command the highest premiums because the event has the largest collector audience and the most media attention. A standard retail Pop might retail for -15; an SDCC exclusive of the same character often sells for -300+ on eBay depending on the character and print run.

SDCC exclusives are also available through the Funko shop online during a short window after the convention, which increases supply slightly but does not eliminate the premium.

Which Exclusives Hold Value Best

Character popularity drives everything. An SDCC exclusive of a character who remains culturally relevant (major Marvel or DC heroes, Star Wars characters, Disney classics) holds value better than a convention exclusive tied to a short-lived franchise. The exclusives that appreciate most are typically those where demand grows after release - a character who gets a major film or TV moment after the exclusive was produced.

Condition also matters more for exclusives. A dented box on a mass-market Pop costs you ; a dented box on an SDCC exclusive can cost you or more in resale value.

Chase Variants vs Standard Exclusives

Many convention exclusives also have a chase variant - a 1-in-6 or 1-in-12 rarer version with metallic finish, glow-in-the-dark elements, or a different pose. Chase versions command the highest premiums of all. An exclusive already worth might have a chase worth +.
