Zane spends a night with Bette and they retrieve the rest of Xavier's manuscript. Bette notes the manuscript includes passages from the perspective of a pigeon. Zane follows Douglass to learn if he was blackmailing Bette but the trail leads him into a secret gay nightclub. Douglass reveals he was in love with Xavier and describes how Van Horn's most recent novel was partially ghostwritten by Xavier.
