Zane discovers the 'gunman' who abducted him is merely an actor. Bette finally introduces herself to Zane and eventually admits she's black, but passes for white; someone had been trying to blackmail her, threatening to ruin her career. Zane gives most of the pages from Xavier's manuscript to Bette, but they are stolen from her dressing room by a policeman.
