The Green Hornet: Solitary Sentinel #1
A senior citizen Britt Reid II thinks back. November 1990: Despite having his \"thug tactics\" exposed by the Daily Sentinel and other media outlets, Leon Marshall is elected mayor. Several members of the city council \"mysteriously resign\" and are immediately replaced by mayoral interim appointees, who quickly pass oppressive laws, with judges who are Marshall cronies blocking court challenges. Hayashi's brother Kumara is scheduled to visit to discuss perceived problems with the US-based Kato's martial arts movies, but shows up in a drugged state and fights Hayashi, who loses out of an unwillingness to hurt him and is imprisoned. An armed assault on Reid Tower via helicopters occurs when Paul Reid is home alone, but he escapes by way of the secret doors, elevators, and passageways of the Green Hornet operation. A celphone call to the Sentinel offices informs Paul that charges have been trumped up against most of the family, cousin/D.A. Diana has been arrested, and Britt has disappeared. The mayor's \"special police\" have taken over all radio and TV stations and newspapers in the city. Paul makes his way to the concealed entrance to the secret sub-cellar beneath the Reid family mansion, where he gets out all of Britt's old Hornet gear, including his Black Beauty. In a reversal of the usual situation, Paul Reid hides from the authorities by becoming the Green Hornet! To be continued...
